Universitat Rovira i Virgili

International conference on Translation Studies

Seminar  -

115 translation scholars from 32 countries meet in Tarragona to discuss the challenges facing translation and interpreting

With the Hemingwayesque title of Moveable Feast, the conference was partly a celebration of the doctoral program in Translation and Intercultural Studies organized at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili from 2003. More than 40 doctors graduated from the program, of whom 18 attended the conference.

Keynote Speakers

David Orrego-Carmona

Associate Professor in Translation Studies, Warwick University

"My research deals primarily with translation, technologies and users. It analyses how translation technologies empower professional and non-professional translators and how the democratisation of technology allows translation users to become non-professional translators."

Kayoko Takeda

Senior Specially Appointed Professor, Rikkyo University, Tokyo

"The primary focus of my research is how states engage with the practice of interpreting and translation, especially in the context of war."

The conference finished at a chiringito on Platja de l’Arrabassada, Tarragona, and a good time was had by all.

The event also marked the retirement of Anthony Pym, coordinator of the doctoral program.
