Carlos Teixeira

Carlos da Silva Cardoso Teixeira is an Adjunct Professor in the Master's in Professional Translation at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), where he primarily supervises student dissertations.

He holds a PhD in Translation and Intercultural Studies, jointly awarded by Universitat Rovira i Virgili and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (2014). His doctoral research explored the intersection between translation and technology, focusing on translator-computer interaction and the cognitive and human aspects of using translation tools. He employed eye tracking and other real-time data collection methods to study how translators interact with digital resources in professional settings. His doctoral research was funded by a Marie Curie fellowship under the European Commission's FP7 framework (TIME project).

He later pursued this line of research as a postdoctoral researcher at Dublin City University and the ADAPT Centre for Digital Content Technology (2015-2018). This was followed by a role as Visiting Research Fellow at the Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation, Trinity College Dublin (2018-2020), where he started serving as a dissertation supervisor.

Before transitioning into academia, Carlos spent over ten years working full-time as a freelance translator, specialising in technical and localisation projects. He translated from English, French, and Spanish into Brazilian Portuguese, and remains active in the language industry today. Carlos currently works as a localisation engineer at IOTA Localisation Services (Dublin), where he applies his academic expertise to real-world challenges in software and content localisation.

Carlos holds undergraduate degrees in Electrical Engineering and Linguistics from the University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil, and an MA in Translation and Intercultural Studies from URV (2011). At the URV, he remains committed to mentoring the next generation of translators and contributing to the advancement of translation studies.
